Hey everyone!

I've arrived safely with all my baggage in Quito around 11:30pm yesterday. the airport was PACKED with people (apparently this is unusual) and i wondered how i would find my supervisor, James. no more than 10 minutes after customs, as i wandered thru the crowds, i heard "Debbie!" and there he was... phew! i guess i stand out amidst the crowd as one of the few Asians :)

i spent the nite at the HCJB guesthouse and slept like a dog. i woke up and had breakfast with a team that arrived that same nite from Boston! they're a team of 8, and they will be spending most of their time building water wells for access to clean water. breakfast was delicious...some sorta egg frittata thingy, with bread, and the sweetest pineapple i had in my life! i thot the yellow pineapples i found in the Superstore that say "extra sweet" were good...these pineapples are nearly white, and just incredible. in addition, i had some papaya, cantaloupe, and dragonfruit! (krista, i agree...they are sooooo good!)

im now in my office after having briefed by James on what will be happening. i won't start work just yet cos my head is still feeling a little bouncy...can't figure out if it's because of the altitude change, or cos of jetlag, but that should wear off soon.

for the first month and a half i will be helping out in a major project for the main HCJB website... we are currently in the process of transferring information from one server to another, because it is a more cost effective choice. after that, i'll be working to help launch two new websites - one in preparation for HCJB's 75 year anniversary, and another will be a community based site for supporters of the ministry.

the internet ministry consists of James, and two other Ecuadorians - Christian, y Edison. and then there's me...so we'll see what sort of dynamics i add to the team :)

i think im gonna go rest up abit, and drink some water - my mouth keeps feeling dry so i'll have to keep hydrated.

i'll be staying in the guesthouse again tonite, and visiting my longer term lodging either later today, or tomorrow.

so it begins...

hey everyone!

thanks for tuning into my blog...this is where i will be posting most of my experiences on a more regular basis when i am in Ecuador - as an attempt to not overload your inbox! in addition to this, i will be sending out intermittent newsletters that cover the main things that come up over the course of the trip (for those who don't surf the net too often or don't have time to read blogs!)

i will use this blog as a key tool in communicating to everyone how things are going, prayer requests, and any other updates, so be sure to bookmark this blog, cos it will be filled with goodies (im sure!) as the date approaches.

a reminder that i will departing Vancouver on June 28...

thanks again,
dL
